Overview

Quick fixes and common questions. For billing or account issues your workspace admin can't solve, use Support & Help Center or Feedback.

Prerequisites

  • Being signed in helps resolve most account and session issues

  • Know which category your issue falls into (sign-in, connection, sessions, context, approvals, plans, extension) to find the right fix faster

Step-by-step guide

  1. Identify the category of your problem: sign-in, connection & models, sessions & history, long chats & context, approvals & edits, plans, or extension.

  2. Check the matching table below for the symptom and fix.

  3. If the issue isn't listed or persists, escalate via Feedback, Support & Help Center, or your workspace admin.

Practical use cases

FAQ:

Where are my chats stored? On your computer, tied to the project you had open. They are not stored as a full history on Swiftask servers.

Can Swiftask Code change files I didn't mention? In Build mode it can read and search the project to do its job. Use Ask for read-only. Use Ask before sensitive actions to confirm edits and commands.

Do I need my own API key?No. You sign in with your Swiftask workspace; your org manages access and usage.

Can I use it offline? No. AI features need a connection to Swiftask.

Are keyboard shortcuts included? Not by default. Bind Swiftask commands in VS Code Keyboard Shortcuts if you want them.

What's coming later?Features like MCP integrations, a CLI, and session collections may arrive in future releases. This docs collection covers what's available today.

Tips & best practices

DoDon't

Start a new chat for a new task

One endless chat for everything

Use Ask to learn, Build to implement

Use Build for "what does this file do?"

Use Plan for multi-day or cross-team work

Jump into huge refactors without a plan

@-mention specific files or terminals

Paste entire large files into every message

Review diffs before Keep all

Accept all changes without looking

Add team rules once in Customize

Repeat the same conventions every chat

Check Account & workspace for models and credits

Assume every model is available

Example prompts by mode: Build, plan & review Β· Chat & context.

Troubleshooting

Sign-in issues

ProblemCheckFix

Repeated sign-in prompts

Network + correct workspace

Sign out/in; see Account & workspace

Session expired mid-chat

Token refresh failed

Resend message; sign out and back in

Connection & models

No reply / streaming stops

Check the connection indicator in the panel. Click Stop, then retry. Verify you have credits in Settings β†’ General.

Wrong or missing old chats

Project folder

Open the same root folder in VS Code

Long chats & context

Context ring full / chat feels "forgetful"

Older messages were summarized to free space. Start a new chat for a new topic, or restate important facts.

See Chat & context for the context ring.

Approvals & edits

Too many permission prompts

In Settings β†’ Permissions, switch to Run everything, or add your usual commands to trusted commands β€” see Customize.

Swiftask Code keeps asking clarifying questions

Your request may be too open-ended. Add scope, @-mention files, or answer and continue β€” see [Build, plan & review](./build-plan-review.md#when-swiftask-code-asks-to-clarify).

Swiftask Code won't edit files

Check the mode: Ask is read-only; Plan needs Build to change source. Switch to Build.

ProblemCheckFix

Keep / Undo not visible

Pending review?

Use Files changed in chat while changes are pending

Plans

ProblemCheckFix

Build doesn't start

Signed in, task limit, plan content

Sign in; stop other tasks; verify Plans library

Can't find a plan

Same project folder

Open the workspace used when creating the plan

Extension

Swiftask icon missing

Confirm the extension is installed and enabled. Reload VS Code. Requires VS Code 1.85+.
